Being accepted in the music industry is difficult enough as an individual, but rappers Kalin White and Myles Parrish were able to break out through the charts as they joined together for a singular musical mission. Known as the pop sensation, Kalin and Myles, the boys were able to combine pop, hip hop, and R&B to create their own sound called “Hip Pop.”
White and Parrish first met at a house party in California, where they exchanged and shared music ideas. After their first encounter at the party, the boys kept in touch on Facebook but continued working on their own individual productions until 2011, when they decided to formally begin making music together. After creating their own beats, singing, and rapping, White and Parrish released their premiere song More Than Friends online. The world’s enthusiastic response was immediately overwhelming, therefore putting their solo careers on hold as they continued to upload more videos online.
Shortly after the release of the videos, the pop sensations managed to round up a massive fan base, becoming Vine Celebrities and amassing an enormous social media following with 730K Vine followers, 12 million Youtube views, 142K Youtube subscribers, 200K Instagram followers, 152K Twitter followers, and 41K Facebook likes. The boys became an instant sensation in the music and social media industry. They started performing headline gigs and then sold out everywhere across the country.
After releasing their Chasing Dreams album, White and Parrish signed with the Republic Records, who released their EP in 2014. The collections’ jams, including Love Robbery and Do My Step has already sparked a dance revolution of its own. Six months later, the duo released their EP Dedication, followed by the Dedication 2015 tour.
Overall, the duo has achieved impressive success as rappers in the music industry. Their sound is very different in a way that catches the audiences’ attention immediately and urges them to stand up and dance. With the release of new songs, their sounds continue to progress, illuminating their passion for music and songwriting. The groups’ dedication to creating their own original music and sounds, based on their likes and style instead of depending on anyone else’s ear portrays their true commitment to originality.
Although White and Parrish have developed a fervent young audience in the course of their careers, their music videos for songs such as Trampoline and Do My Step develop controversy with the young girls’ seducing dance movements. While this type of dancing has become very popular in the music industry, it still remains controversial for young people to be watching and idolizing. While the song title Trampoline may seem like it would contain clean song lyrics, it continuously makes sexual references throughout the entire song. The song lyrics and music videos created by Kalin and Myles would be much better directed for an older and more mature audience, rather than teenagers and young kids.
While Dedication was released, it was a huge success on the billboards, the album only contains four songs. Fans are paying full price for an album that only contains half of the amount of songs that should actually be on the album. Their albums would be much more valuable and impressive if they contained a few more songs.
